As I was reading this 'how-to' I realized I was doing it all completely wrong! No one ever ever taught me how to swallow a pill. But this 'how-to' was sooooo helpful. And now I know how to do it correctly. Here are some of the tips on how to best swallow pills...
Sit down with a glass of water and relax. But it doesn't say how long you should sit there. It says you can try some calming music or even meditation. Hmmm.
Numb your throat by spraying or gargling a topical anesthetic. WOW, isn't that kinda extreme?
Salivate. Ok, I don't know about any of you, but I have a hard time salivating on cue. (No, I am not part dog.) Maybe if I sit and relax and meditate long enough, I could salivate. The article suggests 'rubbing your tongue quickly side to side between the frontal lower lip and your teeth.' I tried this and couldn't get the hang of it. Where am I supposed to quickly move my tongue?? Maybe I should do this in conjunction with the second-to-last tip below - follow up with food.
Take a deep breath. Do I do this before or after I put the pill in my mouth? If I do it after I put the pill in my mouth, wouldn't I suck it down my windpipe? That couldn't be good, could it?
Put your chin to your chest. Ok, this I truly did not know. And was doing it completely wrong! I was lifting my chin up and throwing my head back. Wow, all these years and I haven't sucked any pills down my windpipe. Knock on wood. Not that I believe in knocking on wood.
Follow up with food. This is my favorite tip. How about a steak, some corn on the cob and a nice crisp green salad. And follow that up with some of Becks' specialty - apple and cranberry pie - mmmmmhh, my favorite dessert! Question though - if I had numbed my throat with topical anesthetic, would I still enjoy the food as much? I think not! And do I need to keep my chin to my chest while eating too?
And lastly, repeat until you feel comfortable. I'll go for that. Especially the part about following up with food. Or could I just skip all the other tips and just do this one?
Hope you learned something from this 'how-to' - I sure did! The full article is here.

How to Fold a Towel Monkey
This post is for Brian and Kelly. No words needed. The whole article is here (click to go there), go try it out for yourself! Here's an excerpt from the article...
This towel monkey is a cute addition to your bathroom and an incredible way to impress your guests! Depending on the color of the towel, it can also pass for a rubber chicken. Cruise lines and bed and breakfast motels use these quite often.

Umm, Fresh, Minty-Smelling....Feet?!?
Do you have this problem? Come on, you know you've had to deal with it at least once in your life! That one moment when you take off your shoes and suddenly the atmosphere (no pun intended!) in the room changes - conversations stop, people get antsy and can't sit still. They begin glancing furtively at one another, not sure what to do or say. And then there are those that just refuse to make eye-contact with you. Yep, that's when you know you've got stinky feet! So here is your answer - never again have stinky smelly, ripe feet. Get these inserts and do away with them FOREVER (or at least 6 months at a time). And if you act NOW, we'll throw in this handy-dandy, at-no-extra-cost-to-you, delivered-to-your-front-door.... You get the picture.
Check out the video - I think you have to have flash player installed in your browser. Oh, and check out the restaurant owner at 1:00 minute into the video - she's got some guts to stick her face into someone's boot! Hope she got life-insurance! And the guy at :50 seconds - isn't he kind of well, you know, hmmm, well - 'gentle'? Know what I mean?
PS - the video is from Reuters thru HowStuffWorks.com - here's the link.
PPS - you have to click on the 'play' button at lower left to play the video, it doesn't start automatically.

How To Calculate Your Age by Chocolate
So did I get your mouth watering for some sweet, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate? Did I at least get your attention - you don't normally read these 3 words in the same sentence: calculate, age and chocolate! But this little trick does work!
Try it out. It's fun, simple, easy to do (get a calculator if you forgot how to do simple arithmetic) and ooohhhhh it tastes soooo good. I think I am beginning to like math - especially if it has anything to do with chocolate! Read the full article here. Have fun!

How to Be Optimistic :-)
Here's another cool read - 'how to be optimistic'. It's from a non-Christian perspective but it actually is pretty biblical (well most of it). Isn't it kinda telling that with all the pyschology and counseling 'methods' and directions in the world, they 'discover' a method that actually God has already detailed in His Word?! Good read, very helpful - at least for those who tend to be pessimistic or often depressed or just plain grumpy (schlecht gelaunt for you Deutsche)! ;-) Was very helpful for me as a reminder.
Here are the main points of the article (you can find the full article here). I took the liberty of adding some bible verses that I think fit (again, not all in the article is directly biblical). If the Spirit shows you other verses - add them in your comments.
1. Let go of the assumption that the world is against you....
Rom 8.31 - 'What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?'
2. Look for the source of your pessimism.
Rom 8.5-6 - 'For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.'
3. Understand that the past does not equal the future.
2Cor 5.17 - 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'
4. See yourself as a cause, not an effect.
Matt 7.12 - 'Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.'
5. Accept pain, failure and disappointment as a part of life, not the entirety of it.
1Pet 4.19 - 'Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.'
Rom 8.28 - 'And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.'
6. Be thankful.
1Thess 5.17 - 'in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you'
7. Use positive affirmations.
Phil 4.8 - 'Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.'
8. Remember that life is short.
Ps 90.10,12 - 'The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years...So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.'
1Tim 6.17b - '...but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.'
9. Be a balanced optimist.
Neh 8.10 - 'Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." '

The Ubiquitous Computer Cursor
Okay, I know that is a fancy title - sorry. But everyone uses computers nowadays (unless you are reading this blog in the New York Times print edition - does anyone even read newsPAPERs anymore?). So everyone knows what a mouse cursor is, right? You know what I mean - that funny-looking, white or black, crooked arrow that sometimes has a mind of its own as it skips happily across your screen. Yeah, that one.
So we know what it is, we use it every day. But have you ever wondered how the heck it moves around your screen? Well Japanese researchers have developed a way for you to see 'behind the scenes' as it were (got to hand it to the Japanese). At this website, you can move your mouse around and 'see' how the cursor actually follows your movements. Amazing what technology can do! Enjoy!
PS - turn up the sound a bit, it makes the whole experience come alive. Also, make sure you have Flash player installed (most browsers do). If not, go to Adobe's website to get it.
PPS - almost peed my pants!

Aaaarhh, Matey!
Avast, matey - here's an interesting 'how-to' - 'How to Talk Like a Pirate'. It's something that I always wanted to know, and now I do!
In fact, there is a whole day set aside to talking like a pirate! September 19th of every year is 'International Talk Like A Pirate Day' - check out the webiste here.
And if you really wanna get into it - there's a 'Talk Like A Pirate' song - get the mp3 here.
Let me recap the 9 steps to sounding like a pirate on the high seas. Let's see if you've got pirattitude...
1. Growl and scowl often
2. Use pirate lingo
3. Gesture with your hands frequently
4. Always run words together
5. Never use 'you' or 'you're' - ever
6. Embellish at will
7. Refer to yourself as 'me' at all times - never 'I'
8. Mutter unintelligibly unless when yelling
9. Be as loud as humanly possible
When you think about it, this is EXACTLY how a 2 year old talks! Anyone who knows our 2-and-a-half year old Zachie would agree with me - he's got the whole piratey attitude going, let me tell ya!
Well, I think I know what the theme for our next staff meeting is going to be - 'Talk Like A Christian Pirate'! Arrrrrhhh, me hearties! Git yer sea-legs on, we's headin' out on a shor'-term missions plunderin' trip, yer lilly land-lubber! Shiver me timbers! Yo-ho!

$$$Cha-Ching$$$
Well, here's another how-to - 'How to Make a Million Dollars'. This is related to the last post about the safe-cracking and Swiss bank accounts. This how-to however, is for the do-it-yourselfers among us. Enjoy the read and when you make that $1M, remember my commission! ;-)
PS - and no, the how-to is not how to 'make' $1M, you know, as in 'make it yourself' as in using your own ink and paper, as in, well let me just say - jail. ;-)
